Who here hasn't heard of Comic-con?? Well... if you haven't it has become a huge focal point in the entertainment industries calendar. It is an all encompassing beast of a convention that is not only about comics as the name suggests, but a showcase of all you can probably think of when it comes to popular entertainment today. It has become a really big deal.
It has taken me a little while to get back in the habit of making films after last years 12 in a row left me more than a little exhausted! In the months that followed the screening I have helped out on a few shoots but I have not produced anything original since April!
As we all know the Latest trailer for Star Wars the Force Awakens has just been released. These days lots of people post reaction videos for all kinds of stuff and I saw a lot of interesting ones for the previous two trailers. Star Wars is a big part of my life! There is very little of that life that I can remember when Star Wars didn't play a part in it.
Saturday 25th April... This was the deadline for the 12 Films in a year project. This was the date I would be screening all 12 films to an audience of pretty much everyone I currently know and work with. Friends, Family... Everyone!
August always feels like the beginning of the end of the year. To me June and July make up the core of the summer and when August hits you are on your way to Winter. I had one complicated project behind me and 7 films in total. I was getting very close to achieving what I set out to do (soon I would have 12 films).
Where the hell do I begin with this month’s film?! There are certain things I can't say, it will ruin the surprise, however a LOT went into making this one so there should be no shortage of interesting stuff to talk about.
June would mark the halfway point of this little 'exercise'. Six months in and six films down. What have I learnt so far? I should have planned more? I should have saved more money? Both of these are true. However spontaneity sometimes pays off!
Alright, month five. I am starting to get somewhere...
This month’s film is probably one of the more complex films I have tried to make. On the surface it is similar in style to January’s film. In fact, January, May and December all form a sort of spiritual trilogy. This one, however, I say is complex because I am interpreting a character everyone knows. And I mean every one!
For this film firstly I would straight up like to introduce Antony Harvey, who's work you can find here. I met Antony at University back in 2003 when we were put in halls together. When I first saw Antony I did not think we were going to get along! He was wearing a baseball hat and I'm not a big fan of hats! It turned out that we were in halls together because we were on the same course, so we would be spending a fair amount of time together, like it or not.
I felt that I had had a pretty hectic two months, entirely my doing but still hectic. The late nature of January’s film and the amount of prep needed for February’s fun and games left me a little... tired. This is still a good idea right?
Alright! One film down, eleven more to go!! And I still think this is a good idea!
The idea for this month’s film came together due to two factors: The first as my appreciation of the work done by a company calledRocketJump which you can find here. I strongly recommend taking a look and seeing what they are about.
